Deana Smith, BSBA, BSN, RN, graduated from Eller College and the College of Nursing at the University of Arizona. Before becoming a nurse, Deana was the vice president of a Tucson company specializing in precision engineering and manufacturing. While working there, a desire to care for others led her to nursing. As a nurse, she has worked in the Tucson medical community for more than 25 years, specializing in CVICU, emergency medicine, patient safety, and quality assurance. Currently, she is working at the Arizona Simulation Technology & Education Center (ASTEC). As a simulation nurse educator at ASTEC, she trains learners how to care for patients during high-risk, low-acuity situations, She is also passionate about incorporating the principles of interprofessional education, diversity and inclusion, and caring for the human element.
