About

The Artificial Intelligence Division in Simulation, Education, and Training (AIDSET) was created in September 2023 by Senior Vice President of Health Sciences, Dr. Michael Dake. This unique division will provide the resources and personnel for the creation, research, and application of artificial intelligence in the name of providing better educational training and opportunities for students in the health professions at the University of Arizona Health Sciences. This unit is housed within ASTEC and is under the direct supervision of Dr. Allan J Hamilton, Regents Professor of Surgery, and Executive Director of ASTEC.

AIDSET envisions a future in which every single student has an AI mentor to coach them during their formative years in medical school through residency and fellowship training, and even into clinical practice. One of the great advantages of the AI revolution is the ability to provide one-on-one, customized, personalized coaching for each individual student through almost every aspect of that individual's education in the healthcare professions. We believe that, as AI methodologies are developed and become available, they can be grouped under this mentoring system.
