New ASTEC Simulation Offerings!

Want more HANDS-ON simulation at ASTEC? Join us for exciting new simulation sessions- they're open to any Health Sciences student! Multiple dates/times are available every month, so check out the schedule and get signed up to experience ASTEC, grow your interprofessional abilities, and learn valuable, applicable skills!

20 sessions will be offered across September and October 2021.  See below for detailed information about each event, including the simulation equipment you will get to use!  There is only room for 5-8 students per group, so act fast before your spot disappears!

Individual registration is required.  ASTEC is seeking interprofessional learning groups for these activities, so no more than 7 students from one college will be permitted per session.  For questions, please contact Christina Partica at cpartica@arizona.edu.  

 

IN-PERSON SIMULATIONS

Evacuation

ASTEC wants you to participate in this exciting HANDS-ON SIMULATION!  The simulation begins in an ICU as staff learns that an explosion has happened in the hospital.   ASTEC aims to demonstrate the safe evacuation of an intubated patient from a multi-level building in a time of crisis.  You’ll work with up to 5 interprofessional team members to evacuate our ventilated Code Blue manikins down a flight of stairs in the Health Sciences Innovation Building.  All sessions will be taught by Deana Smith BSBA, BSN, RN. 

Sessions takes place on September 14, October 6, 22, & 29

 

Inpatient Rounds

ASTEC wants you to participate in this HANDS-ON SIMULATION!  Use our Code Blue manikins as you simulate inpatient rounds, an important part of daily life in the hospital.  You’ll expand your understanding of the benefits of interprofessional rounding and identify challenges to interprofessional communication and practice, implementing alternative solutions within the chart checking, patient assessment, and rounding stages.  Learn how to utilize the combined expertise of an interprofessional team to develop an effective patient management plan. Each interprofessional simulation session has room for up to 8 students. 

Sessions take place September 18 and October 10

 

In This Together

ASTEC wants you to participate in this HANDS-ON SIMULATION!  Use our Code Blue human patient simulators to delve into and build a foundation for team-based care for the community-based client.  In this simulation you will explore role expectations and stigmas associated with professions and demonstrate SBAR in effectively communicating with team members.  All sessions will be taught by Coy Collins, MSN, FNP-BC, NRP, CEN.  Each interprofessional simulation session has room for up to 8 students. 

Sessions take place September 17 and October 30

 

In Their Shoes

Heart, Mind, and Soul

ASTEC wants you to participate in this HANDS-ON SIMULATION!  Use our 3D anatomy table to explore interdisciplinary care for the whole person.  Learn how to recognize interprofessional application to whole person and how to leverage visual technologies to conduct patient care planning and education.   All sessions will be taught by Coy Collins, MSN, FNP-BC, NRP, CEN.  Each interprofessional simulation session has room for up to 8 students.  

Session takes place on September 29

 

Code Blue

ASTEC wants you to participate in this HANDS-ON SIMULATION!  Use our Code Blue manikins to explore role expectations and stigmas associated with different healthcare professions and practice effective communications during an emergency.   All sessions will be taught by Coy Collins, MSN, FNP-BC, NRP, CEN.  Each interprofessional simulation session has room for up to 8 students.  

Session takes place on October 1

 

Simulation Relay

Do you have what it takes to beat the clock in this HANDS-ON SIMULATION relay?  Join us at ASTEC to gain experience with a variety of healthcare equipment, human patient simulators, and task trainers as you race to beat the clock with your interprofessional team.  Look forward to using equipment that you may not encounter in your day-to-day education while strengthening your skills and learning more about other healthcare professions.  Each simulation relay has room for up to 8 students.

VIRTUAL SIMULATIONS

Health Systems & Services, Acute Care

Join ASTEC in a telesimulation that will explore telehealth delivery in the acute care environment.  Learn how to recognize presence and gaps for telehealth engagement within the community and how to define interprofessional contributions to assist the whole-person wellness concept.  All sessions will be taught by Coy Collins, MSN, FNP-BC, NRP, CEN.  Each interprofessional telesimulation session has room for up to 8 students.

Telesimulation

Join ASTEC in a telesimulation that will explore community-based telehealth through the lens of a mutlidisciplinary team.  Learn how to recognize presence and gaps for telehealth engagement within the community and how to define interprofessional contributions to assist the whole-person wellness concept.   All sessions will be taught by Coy Collins, MSN, FNP-BC, NRP, CEN.  Each interprofessional telesimulation session has room for up to 8 students.
